     Having returned from our southwestern travels and after living within the woods surrounding Jacks Lake for some time we took the opportunity to explore our immediate surroundings.  A half hour drive from our house is the conservation area known as "The Gut".  It's a special place with spiritual as well as natural significance.

     Through our exploration of this area where the Crow River cuts a gorge through the rocks of the Canadian Shield I found a view which inspired me.  It was not the waterfall at the head of the canyon sculpted by the river but rather the view looking up towards what looks like a doorway framing the rushing waters which captured my imagination.
