Quiescence was the initial logo idea during preliminary development of the
design concept for our studio and gallery Art Unseen. The symbolism was
obvious, closed eyes, unseen, maybe too obvious. At any rate, it fell
to the wayside for this purpose when work began on Justice. And yet it
remained a work unto itself that I liked. All it lacked was a decent
title.
Eyes or Eyes Closed
as titles seemed kind of lame considering I hold titles for my work in high
regard. At times it seems a drawing or painting is simply that, a word
defined through visual imagery. Somewhere through my searching I came
upon the word Quiescence (being at rest; absence of motion) and
associated with its definition were quotes from T. S. Eliot ~ "lucid stillness" and Wordsworth
~ "wise passiveness". I liked the word, it
not only added description to the piece itself but it also had a balancing
effect to the drawing Justice. When fighting injustice locally or
globally the eternal quiet within us is not a bad place to start and continue
to draw from. Going off have cocked and reactionary only tends to
perpetuate the the very thing one wishes to change. If one needs proof
to this effect you need only judge the actions of the so called "leader of
the free-world" and see what they have wrought.
