At
present a large oil painting is in the works which includes numerous
figures entangled in a wave of humanity's triumphs and tragedies.
In this process, sketches are drawn and some I have found to have a life
of their own. "Within
Skin and Stone" came from one such sketch. Along with other
drawings such as
"Samsara" (also
considered for inclusion) I needed to fully realize it in
pencil. Not only that, but considering the time I will spend
finishing this latest painting, I needed to create some completed works
along the way.
The title "Within Skin and Stone" is simply what came to mind
when I studied this particular pose. The embryonic figure gives the impression of being
still as stone. Yet within... there is life. And to a greater extent,
even in stone itself there is life energy. Some call it Love, the ethereal
energy or silent music which keeps the universal dance and our planet in
motion.
